Coindre Hall

Jinx Thinks: 

The first time we pulled in the parking lot here I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw all. that. grass.  The rolling hill and big field are my favorite, as well as looking out on Puppy Cove down at the bottom of the hill. I love playing ball in the field, as well as taking a walk on the trails! Every time we’re here I meet new pups! This place is perfect for my long leash, I get to spend lots of time running and sniffing around!

Our Thoughts:

Coindre Hall is near and dear to me (Megan)  because I have a passion for all things ‘Gold Coast’ and it’s here in my hometown of Huntington. It’s rare to come here and not see dogs, but every dog (and owner!) we’ve encountered so far has been super friendly. The trails here aren’t super long, probably about a mile when you add them all up together, but the walk down to the boat house and the view of the harbor is beautiful, and the field & hill are wonderful for getting energy out. 

Fun Facts & Sights to See:

• Was built for George McKesson Brown in the early 1900s and was known as West Neck Farms
• The Unitarian Church next door was originally part of this property and functioned as the gate house. The water tower was also part of the church until the need for expansion arose and it was demolished.
• Allegedly, during Prohibition, an underground tunnel was used to bring liquor from the boathouse to the main house
• Some people have claimed to see apparitions in 1930’s attire on the grounds and in the house
• The fresh water pond you pass on the way to the boathouse was used for harvesting ice to cool the house in the summer months
