This park serves as the northern trailhead of the Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt Trail which runs to the Bethpage State Park, and eventually down to the south shore of Nassau County
Local History: this property was originally supposed to host part of a bridge to Connecticut, as proposed by Robert Moses. The land was eventually forgotten about after the bridge failed to be built, until a local librarian brought it to the attention of state officials while seeking a place for a new library in Cold Spring Harbor
