- About this place:
Jinx Thinks:
I love both trail loops in this park! We did the white loop the first time we came here, it was winding and twisting, slightly disorienting, but so much fun! There were tons of things to see along the way, and I loved sniffing each one of them. Since it’s a pretty quiet park, I get to go on the long leash here and explore EVERYTHING. When we came back the second time and went on the orange loop, we ended up near a lake which was probably my favorite part! The trails were nice under my feet, mosty dirt or pine needles.
Our Thoughts:
Sans Souci is a small park that packs a lot of character. We love this park for so many reasons, the white trail is a fun, winding loop through the woods, and the orange trail is a long stretch followed by a narrow loop back that starts in the woods, leads up to a lake that has a few really beautiful vantage points, and turns through a stretch that feels sandy and beachy before heading back through the woods again. Even the hilliest bit of trails are enjoyable and feel pretty easy. All trails are well marked, and there is a map in the parking lot that has a key to the blazes and a color coded map of the trails. There are lots of little surprises along the way here: evergreen trees that are decorated, wooden structures made of logs and twigs, small foot bridges over little streams. It feels like this park is well loved by the community.
Fun Facts & Sights to See:
- “Sans souci” is French for “without worry” which is exactly how we feel when we’re here
- Historical fact: Sans souci lake was one contiguous lake until the mid 1800s, when it was divided by several dams and used as a cranberry farm
