Vessels heading to and from NY along the Jersey coastline depended on this lighthouse to avoid the shoals near the shoreline. The light, affectionately known as Barney, was originally lit in 1859 and has since been restored and was lit again in 2009. There is also a Maritime Forest Trail (0.2 miles)
Dogs are not permitted on the beach from April 1st to September 15th.
