Camp Hero

Camp Hero is 415 acres of varying landscape, including woodlands, beach, and wetlands. An extensive trail system is available for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. 

Fun Facts & Sights to See:

• Historical Fact: Camp Hero (Montauk Air Force Station) was commissioned by the US Army in 1942, and was originally disguised as a fishing village. It served to protect NY from invasion by way of the sea.
• Interesting Points: there is a conspiracy theory called The Montauk Project that alleges there were secret projects by the US Government including experiments in time travel, mind control, and teleportation conducted at Camp Hero
• Pop Culture: The show Stranger Things is based in part on supposed experiments conducted at Camp Hero
• Things to see: there are still many buildings on the property from it’s time as a military base
• Fun fact: The military base in the park is registered as a National Historic Site
