A gunpowder mill was established at Powder Mill Pond in 1794 and ran successfully until the business literally blew up in 1892. You can also see the sluiceway of a textile mill by Wadsworth Falls, both reminders of the areas importance during the Industrial Age.
Colonel Clarence C. Wadsworth was involved in preserving the falls for everyone to enjoy. His will established a corporation that helped see his plans through, giving the land to the state in 1942.
The trail system connects the falls to the main picnic areas and other scenic areas in the park. The stone bridge was used by the Colonel and passes through woods, and past several streams.
